There are a number of factors that can improve or weaken your immunity, a lot of which you have no control over. But there are also many natural ways you can help by making even the smallest of changes to your lifestyle and diet.

Drink lots of water


Water is so important for your body. Drinking an adequate amount ensures that toxins are flushed out and that all your cells get enough oxygen to be able to function as they are meant to. In turn, your immune system will work at its best when your body is working at its best.

Eat whole food and greens


Try to avoid processed foods as they can contain toxins that cannot be used by our cells. To help your immune system you need to include enough vitamins and minerals and focus on getting a balanced diet. Great food sources include yoghurt, garlic, broccoli and mushrooms.

Too much sugar is a no,no. It is said that consuming too much sugar can suppress the immune cells responsible for attacking bacteria.

Get enough sleep


While you are sleeping your body repairs itself, stocks up on energy and helps to reduce your stress levels too! It is recommended that adults should get around eight hours per night. Although there is no specific research that links sleep and your immune strength we do know that getting enough kip helps your body function well, which can only be a good thing.

Exercise regularly


Exercise can help your immune system fight infection. Your chance of getting a cold or flu is reduced if you work out regularly because the rigorous activity can help flush out bacteria from your lungs and airways. It also reduces stress, increases the release of feel-good endorphins and helps you sleep which aids a strong immune system.

Get out in the sunshine


Vitamin D is vital for your immune system (it activates the white blood cells), and the best way to get it is from the sun. Around 15 minutes per day is enough, just be sure not to burn!

Laugh more


They say laughter is the best medicine and it really is. A good laugh increases antibodies and reduces your stress levels. Laughing can also get your heart racing as much as exercise. Giggle your way to a healthy body and mind.

Have more sex


Having regular sex (one-two times per week) is said to increase your body’s immunoglobin by up to 30% – the body’s first line of defense.
